All Canadian Leaders Need to Remain United Against Trump’s Bullying
Back when all of the Beatles were alive, they insulted each other all the time, especially John and Paul, but also George at times. They were the authors of the original “diss tracks”. But if anyone outside of the Fab Four insulted Paul McCartney, you better believe John Lennon would smack them upside their head! Same with any other combination of Beatle. They said “we can insult each other, but that is because we are family and you are not one of us.”
The same is with the original members of Kiss. I have heard Ace Frehley, for example, say that he would not stand for anyone else insulting Paul or Gene, even though they all roast each other publicly all the time. I seem to also remember another musician recalling Ace chastising him for insulting either Paul or Gene, because that was a no-no to the “Space Man”.
It should be the same for Canadian politicians. Federal and provincial politicians fight all the time, sometimes for good reasons and sometimes for dumb ones. But none of them should ever take the side of a foreign bully! There is an unofficial rule that Canadian politicians never bring domestic politics into a foreign environment. When outside Canada, we are all united on the same team. By the same token, we should always stand united when being attacked from the outside. No matter your party or your province, you represent Canada on the world stage!
Danielle Smith Is An Embarrassment
Danielle Smith is such an embarrassment. She never hesitates to fight the Canadian government when she feels it harms Alberta, but when Trump does it just for fun, she grovels at his feet like a pathetic little dog. She seems to forget we are not the 51st state.
Hey Danielle! Pretend Trump is a Liberal and grow a spine!
Furthermore, Donald Trump does not care about a Canadian carbon tax or emissions caps. He wants the U.S. to be an energy superpower, so why would he want to make it easier for Alberta to supply oil and gas to his country?
Someone needs to sit her down and explain that Alberta is part of Canada, so even if oil and gas were exempted from the Trump tariffs, those tariffs would still hurt us all. And if anyone thinks the federal government is using Albertan wealth to benefit the "eastern bastards", what do they think would happen if Trump's tariffs do even more damage out east?
Trump obviously does hate Trudeau, but it will be no different when Poilievre becomes PM because Trump only sees "us vs. them". Poilievre will always be a part of Trump's "them", no matter how many empty three-word slogans he uses. We are no longer in an era where we can gain from a friendly relationship with POTUS, as existed with Reagan/Mulroney, Bush Sr./Mulroney, Clinton/Chrétien, or Bush Jr./Harper. Trump will always see Canada as the enemy because he sees every transaction as zero-sum.
And again, that zero-sum attitude means doing something to benefit Alberta leads to an equal harm to the U.S. He is not a "master negotiator" who wrote The Art of the Deal. Tony Schwartz wrote that book and Trump slapped his name on it. Trump can barely read.
